Our boat tours to Drangey Island start from Sauðárkrókur marina, surrounded by the stunning landscape of Skagafjordur in North of Iceland.

Drangey island is a birdwatching paradise. The island is a nesting colony for thousands of seabirds, including puffins, guillemots, gannets, kittiwakes, fulmar, shearwaters along with ravens and gyrfalcons. The island is a sheer sided palagonite rock aproximately 180m high and provides a wonderful view over the whole fjord.

A trip to Drangey is a unique experience combining  sightseeing, birdwatching, sailing, hiking with personal service and guidance. There is a man made path to the top of the island along the face of the cliffs. While hiking you can get up close to the puffins that frequently sit resting within a few meters of the path. During the hike our tour guides tell the ancient stories of Grettir the strong, a viking that lived on the island in excile and more recent ones of how the islands resources have harvested from past to present. The tour is suitable for both groups and individuals of all ages. The tour duration is approximately 4 hours.

It´s not a problem if someone does not wish to take on the hiking part of the trip to the top of the island.  Those who wish can stay on the boat or go on shore at the small harbor in Drangey, relax and enjoy the beautiful scenes of nature all around.

Over the summer months, June 1st - August 20 st, we offer daily trips to Drangey from Sauðárkrókur at 10:00 am.

In May and September are no scheduled tours but tours can be arranged on request.

During the winter, when the snow is deep and the fjord is white, we put on our snowshoes and enter the frozen landscapes of the north. The snowshoes allow us to go outdoors without sinking to deep in the powder and they give us the necessary grip on patches of icy snow. If you like hiking, you will love snowshoeing.

The Snowshoe Delight is our daily scheduled snowshoe tour. But you can also book us for a private snowshoe hike, and we also have kids snowshoes for a Family Snowshoe Tour."

Söðulsholt travel service offers accommodation and horse rental activity. Our accommodation include 4 premium cottages, each sleeping 4 people comfortably. Each cottage include one double bedroom, two twin beds in the upper loft, fully-equipped kitchen, sitting area, bathroom w/shower and outside seating area. A "Weber" grill is available for your use. A minimum stay of two-three nights is required. We offer our guests short riding tours and access to a private river where guests may fish for salmon/trout (extra fee). Want to get to know the Icelandic horse? The Visiting HorseFarm at Sturlu-Reykir (route 518) is a good place to do so. It specializes in welcoming those who just want to meet this world-famous breed in a friendly environment.

Visiting HorseFarm is run by the couple Hrafnhildur and Jóhannes who have been practicing horsemanship all their lives in Borgarfjörður. They offer horse rides, stablevisit, natural hotspring, homebaked ryebread, coffee and hot chocolate.

Arnanes Country Hotel is a family-run company, established in May 1993 in our own home, located in Nesjahverfi, 1,5 km from Arnanes.
In August 1993 we bought a part of the farm Arnanes (30 ha of land and 2 houses) and early spring 1994 we moved our home to Arnanes.

Our former home then became a guesthouse and still it is a part of our hotel with 5 rooms, a sitting room and living rooms, complimentary coffee and tea,TV and free internet access just like in all of our rooms.

1995 we renowated our house in Arnanes, starting with 4 rooms w. shared facilities on first floor with panoramic view to glaciers and mountains in Vatnajökull National Park.

In May 1996 we started our riding tours from Arnanes , 16 years later we are still going strong. The first 12 years I managed the riding tours myself but for the last 4 years my youngest son (23 years old) has been taking care of it.

In June 1997 we opened our restaurant in Arnanes with seats for 40 people.
At the same time we built 3 bungalows here in Arnanes, each with 2 rooms with bath.

Since then we have not built any new houses but instead we have tried to keep everything in good shape.

South East ehf is a small family business  located in the town of Höfn on the southeast coast of Iceland.

Our names are Anna María and Siggi and we have two children who are not so much children any more, we run this business and our aim is to make your visit to our beautiful area as magnificent as we can. We have lived here almost all our lives and know the area and its hidden gems.

Siggi is the driver and guide, he has volunteered for many years in our local rescue unit, he is a captain of the rescue ship in Höfn, He worked as a fisherman for about 23 years mostly as a captain, but for the last years he has been a harbor pilot and the director of the port of Hornafjörður.

PAST AND PRESENT

In Akureyri, there is plenty of history to explore. You will discover many interesting things strolling at a leisurely pace around town as we weave our way between the past and the present. We begin by showing you what the town centre has to offer before making our way up the hill (50 m elevation) and telling you the story of Akureyri. The walk takes us to the Botanical Garden and after that we will visit a home where you will experience Icelandic culture and hospitality. This walk is 2 km long and with the visit it takes approximately 2-3 hours. 

HISTORY LANE 

We will walk through the town centre on our way to the oldest part of Akureyri. This is a peaceful and attractive part of town, rich with houses from the middle of the 19th century, each with its own history. In the early days of Akureyri this was the town’s centre. We walk through the quiet streets, tell you stories, have a look at lovely gardens and pass by museums. At the end of the walk, we visit a home where you will experience Icelandic culture and hospitality. This walk is 3 km long and with the visit it takes approximately 2-3 hours. This is a level ground walk without any hills.  

WALK & VISIT

Learn about our beautiful town, Akureyri, by walking around town in small groups. Furthermore, we welcome you into our homes, where you will experience Icelandic culture and tradition first-hand.

LOCAL HOME VISIT

The travel service at Stóra-Sandfell is located 17 km. south of Egilsstaðir, by highway 95. When driving over the road called Öxi (which is the shortest route) or Breiðdalsheiði, the roads lie between Höfn and Egilsstaðir.

At our facilities we offer many different types of accomodations, cottages, rooms or at our campsite. We also offer horseriding tours through Sandfell‘s forest and nearby. Many lovely hiking trails are in the area.

Our accomodations are close to all of the major tourist-attractions in the Eastern Fjords.

The travel service at Stóra-Sandfell has been run by the same family for 30 years and combines experience with eastern hospitality. We put emphasis on having a good and personal contact with our all guests and want to make sure they will be able to enjoy themselves in a beautiful and relaxing enviroment, surrounded by Icelandic nature.

We do offer 10 cottages, of different types, but all are build for 2-4 persons. All of them do have a private kitchenette and access to a gas grill. Six of the cottages have private bathrooms but the other four share a bathhouse together.

The 3 rooms each have a private enterence and a small private bathroom. All rooms share a kitchen and all have access to a gas grill.

The campsite is surounded by the old birch forest and is ideal for families or induviduals with tents or campers. On the site there are dining benches, making it comfortable to eat outside in the nature.

A small stream goes through the campsite and is perfect for the younger members of the family to make a splash in.

In the restrooms we have toilets, showers and outdoor sinks with cold and hot water.

All of the horseriding tours are monitored by a guide. We always try to make sure we find a horse that suits each and every rider well. Before each trip we go over all safety rules and do some practice rounds inside a fence.

There is no fixed time for the riding tours, so all tours are planned individually. The minimum number of riders is 2 for each trip and the maximum is 10 riders.

Horseback ride and dinner with a Viking!

Efri-Úlfsstaðir, our farm, is located right in the center of our greatest Saga: BrennuNjáls Saga. Arriving at our farm, you will be a part of our history, and you should also feel part of it. When we ride our horses, we ride on 1000-year-old tracks that the Vikings used to ride. We drink from the same river and look at the same mountains as the Vikings did. The horses are the foundation of all our tours, but our Saga, food, and insight give you a very special experience not to be found anywhere else.

Giljar is a farm in Borgarbyggð, West Iceland, and located 12 km from Reykholt towards Húsafell.

Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon is one of the most amazing natural wonders of Iceland and one of the most popular attractions for travelers to visit. The lagoon started to form in 1934 when the glacier started to retreat in the area. In 1956 the size of the lagoon was 4,5 square kilometers and in 1975 the lagoon had reached the size of 8 square kilometers. Today the size of the lagoon is estimated to be around 25 square kilometers and it's constantly getting larger as approximately 500 square meters of ice break off the glacier every year. Jokulsarlon is the deepest lake in Iceland with maximum depth of 260 meters in front of the glacier edge.

With Rögnvaldur on the RAM 3500 modified, there can be a maximum of 4 passengers on a day trip and a feast can be arranged at the destination. Horse back riding with personal service
It is ideal for families and small groups of friends. Everyone can take part and the guides can lead the youngest childrens by the rein during the trip. We always start inside the riding arena where we will teach you all the basics and then we go outside and ride with you. There are good horses for both unexperienced riders and as well for experienced riders. You can choose between 1, 2 or 3 hours trips and even a day-trip for experienced riders which are 5 hours.

We also provide children tours where we lead their horses by the rein inside the riding arena for about 10 minutes.

Holiday house
Cosy holiday house in the country side where up to 7 people can sleep. Vorsabær 2 is situated only 80 kilometers from Reykjavík. In the house there are 2 bedrooms, one of which has a double bed and the other a bunk bed. Besides there is a 18 m2 sleeping loft with 3 beds. We also provide a crib on request, free for children up to 2 years old. There is floor heating in the house and the kitchen is equipped with all necessary tableware and is included in a spacious living room with a TV. Outside the living room is a patio with garden furniture and a gas barbecue. The view from the house is breathtaking, looking east you can see the volcano Hekla and in winter there is a good chance to witness amazing northern lights!

Kaldbakur Tours offers during the winter trips up the mountain Kaldbakur which is 1.173m high, making it the highest peak on the northeastern side of Eyjafjörður, with panoramic views all the way east to Langanes and into the highlands of Iceland. Kaldbakur is known as one of Iceland’s Energy spots, and a trip up Kaldbakur is an unforgettable experience.

Kalbakur Tours operate two snow cats with a combined maximum capacity of 64 adults.  They are both open air so it is necessary to dress warmly according to weather conditions.  The journey up Kaldbakur takes approximately 45 minutes.   At the very top is a Cairn, which the Danish Kings Army erected in 1914.  We stop there for about 15 minutes to enjoy the magnificent view in all directions.  Our drivers point out various landmarks and are happy to answer any questions.  It’s also tradition to sign the guestbook, which is kept in the cairn.
Passengers can then choose to ski, snowboard, walk, sled or just sit back and enjoy the ride down again in the snow cat.  If the adventure bug bites, it’s possible to use one of our own design Icelandic snow sledges, especially made for adults. They are big and strong with enough room for two, great for the whole family.

The exhibition is at a local house, Mýrar 8, 450 Patreksfjördur. You can get a personal guidance. It is about the time when the French fishermen were fishing by Iceland 100-150 years ago. French scientific expeditions also came to Patreksfjördur, the first one 1767.
There are unique things and pictures, both French and Icelandic, along with many books in both languages. Some of the things are over 100 years old, e.g. two French coins from 1854 and 1856 and a charcoal drawing from the year 1900, also an original page from a French newspaper from 1895.  
There is a French fisherman’s bag worn out and patched.  The last time the bag came to Patreksfjördur with its owner was 1913.  
At the exhibition there are pictures from Patreksfjördur, which have not been shown in Iceland before and drawings from 1772, also some very old fish bones.
The book "Pêcheurs de France vus par les Islandais" The French fishermen, seen by the eyes of Icelanders, is for sale at the exhibition.

Lakagigar is nestled deep in the Icelandic highlands between the glaciers Vatnajökull and Mýrdalsjökull . This is like entering another world like no other place on earth.  Some have seen similarity with the land of Mordor in the epic adventure film Lord of the Rings based on the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien yet so beautiful and peaceful in the middle of the mountains and mossy green lava.

Don’t risk your precious rental car crossing rivers on the rough track to Laki.  There is no insurance in the world that covers damage to your car when crossing rivers.   

Crossing deep rivers and driving on rough mountain tracks are what the Icelandic Super Jeep was made for.  The Super Jeep was born in Iceland.  It’s a four-wheel drive, all-terrain vehicles equipped with massive suspension systems and tires ranging from 38″ to 46″ in size.  Besides using enormous tires, these vehicles have reshaped bodies to house the larger wheels, extended suspension, and a special lift kit to increase the ride height.  

Most Icelandic mountain tracks and roads (f roads) are just for larger 4x4 vehicles with experienced drivers.  They are narrow little maintained tracks and there are rivers to cross and sharp rocks and pot holes hard to see on the way. 

Let your expert local driver guide do the driving while he gives you informative comments about the history and geology of Lakagigar. 

Among the places we visit in the tour is Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon, Fagrifoss waterfall, Tjarnargigur Crater and of course Lakagigar and the mountain Laki.

Safarihestar horse rental is a small family business located on the south shore of lake Mývatn at Álftagerði III farm, 400m west of Sel-Hótel Mývatn. We offer one or two hours guided riding tours in the beautiful surroundings of lake Mývatn and the nearby crater formations with a nice view over the whole lake. Most of the horses are owned by the family and born, raised and trained on the farm. We have suitable horses for beginners, children and experienced riders. ATV - Ísafjörður offers atv / quad guided tours. You can experience the varied nature around Isafjordur in a safe, simple and fun way, in a small group. Fish for truly wild brown trout and Arctic char in the purest mountain lakes and streams amidst the untouched wilderness.
Once inaccessible to all but a few, this region is traversed by gravel roads which only open during the summer months. Your personal guide will transport you by four-wheel-drive vehicle across the black sands and lava fields, past bizarre volcanic landforms, through unbridged rivers and geothermal areas, deep into the interior.
If you are an angler with a sense of adventure then this tour will tick all the boxes: exciting fishing in remote, awesome locations for beautiful brown trout and hard-fighting Arctic char weighing up to 8lbs (3.5kgs).
Floating lines and small black flies are vital although it’s good to have slow sinking lines for use in deeper water. A special selection of Icelandic trout flies can be provided if requested in advance.

FISHING FOR SILVER BARS OF SALMON

With over one hundred self-sustaining Atlantic salmon rivers in Iceland, each fishing up to 20 rods per day, there is a wealth of fishing opportunities to enjoy in this unique country. However, to first-time anglers, visitors new to the island or salmon junkies who want to escape for just a day or two, finding out where to go, what’s available, how to get there and sourcing tackle hire can be a daunting prospect.
By booking a day trip in the company of a professional angling guide everything will be taken care of so all you have to do is wear the appropriate clothing and be ready on collection. The ability to cast a fly rod (9-12 feet long) will help you to make the most of your time on the water, but it is not necessary. Fly fishing instruction can be provided on the river and your day will be planned to suit individual or group requirements.
Amongst those rivers which may be selected for your fishing, (depending on the latest catches and availablity), are the River Sog, River Korpa, River Laxa, River Brynjudalsa,
River Hvita, River Stora Laxa, River Affall, River Thvera, River Skoga, River Ranga Junction and others.

ATVICELAND is located at Lambalækur Farm in Fljotshlid, only 10 min. from Hvolsvöllur on Road One or just about 1½ hour from the city center in Reykjavik. ATV´S
Our ATV’s are registered, as on road vehicles and we are therefore able to offer you many variations of tours and activities – if you got a valid driver licence. They are automatic and easy to drive, so no experience is needed. We do tours from 2 hours up to a whole day adventure and the tours are available all days – all year round!

The tours

2-3 hour

This 2-3 hours ATV tour takes you between two of Iceland‘s most famous and notorious volcanos, Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull. We will be crossing small rivers and will visit waterfalls and caves along the way. From our base in Lambalækur we head to the North where you will experience driving in riverbeds and along less traveled paths West of Mt. Þríhyrningur. During the tour we will stop at a cave which was once inhabited by Irish monks located by the river Fiská. This stop offers a great view over the famous Hekla volcano and Mt. Tindfjoll. At the cave we will light a fire where we treat ourselves with cup of coffee, te and hot chocolate. Just outside the cave entrance stands a rock formation believed to be home of elves and sometimes we even make contact with the inhabitants. This tour offers an easy ride for everyone.

With so many routes to offer from our Lambalækur Farm, we welcome you to experience a 4-5 hours blind date with an Icelandic nature. Among routes are f.ex. Markarfljotsglufur canyon and Mt. Tindfjoll. The variable routes available takes you across unbridged rivers, to magnificent waterfalls and to untouched and exretemely beautiful wilderness in the Icelandic Highlands. This tour is a little more strenuous than the standard 2-3 hours tour. However the tour offers breathtaking views and should not be missed if you are up to the task!

Whale Watching in Snæfellsnes
West Iceland is a paradise for whale enthusiasts and famous for its unique whale species. Snaefellsnes is the only area in Iceland where orcas are seen on a regularly base. Another unique species around Snaefellsnes are sperm whales. Sperm whales are the largest toothed whales in the world and one of the deepest diving whales.  Other species we regularly see on our whale trips are humpback whales, minke whales, pilot whales, dolphins, and sometimes even blue whales. A nature reserve on the nearby island Melrakkaey attracts hundreds of puffins and other seabirds. It is wonderful to see puffins lined up along the edge of the cliffs like sentries on watch while the other birds wade and warble through the waves around the island with its basalt columns. On this 2-hours boat tour we head out to the nearby island, Melrakkaey, a nature reserve where many birds nest, such as puffins, shags, cormorants, kittiwakes and more. We sail close to the cliffs to get the best view and to photograph these beautiful ocean birds. Then we move into deeper waters for some sea-angling. Each passenger is given a fishing rod to try to hook a fish or two and for this, all necessary fishing equipment is provided. Situated in a very beautiful place where anyone can go camping and hiking in a wonderful scenary, a good place for children to play and where a little forest just above the summer houses where anyone can walk through, indeed a very comfortable place to stay and just perfect to spend a vacation.
There are thirteen (13) guesthouses which are all newly built from the years 2002 and 2003 and more will be added. Each guest house are with panels and parkets on the floor and each has its own terrace.

Our life is horse tours. It's been our passion, all our life. To go out in the nature and be a team with the horse. To see the beautiful places, and sometimes tough landscape, that molded our beloved Icelandic horse. To have the companionship of other horse lovers, and to just live and breath the fresh air in the nature, and feel the rhythm of life.

We offer guided horse tours with one of us, the local farmers at Langhus farm, or our assistant guides. We have well trained horses, steady and obedient, they are our family and work horses, and some of them have been used for competitions, they are happy, well taken care of, get regular days off, and a long vacation every year, and live a fulfilled life. We take the time to match you with the right horse for you, and to give good instructions about riding so you can enjoy the tour better. We keep this on a personal level, so people can see the Icelandic nature, the background of the horses and what made them what they are (the sometimes harsh and sometimes wonderful nature, the breeding, the people and the culture), get lessons if they want, get to know excellent horses and visit an Icelandic farm on the real countryside.

We have several tour options 1-4 hour long. But we can also do a special tour based on your wishes. We can do private tours for an extra fee. Just feel free to contact us and we make something wonderful together, and more important, have fun. Sometimes people also book more than one day tour. On our website you also find information about what accommodation is in the neighborhood, ideas about what to do when not riding etc.

Our groups are usually small and at the speed and difficulty that fits our guests. But if you have a bigger group, then we can now accommodate groups of 18 beginner riders, and 25 if some in your group are experienced. We also have programs for even bigger groups than that.

Also, it always takes a few minutes extra to prepare you for the tour, and it's not fun for you to be in a hurry. We do a little riding lesson before the tour itself starts, so if you are beginners you learn a bit about how to ride, and experienced riders learn how to ride the Icelandic horse. That is helpful and fun for everybody. So, the whole visit/experience here can easily take 30-90 minutes more than the tour itself. On the other hand, if you are very experienced and on a tight schedule we can do the whole process in a fast way and focus simply on the ride itself.

Animal welfare is also a priority for us, each horse never goes on more than 1 tour per day, and we give them at least 2 days off per week. They also get at least 2 months of vacation every year. They have big grassy pastures to roam on and top quality hay in the winter time. They live a very natural life in big herds.

Eco-consciousness is also a priority on our farm, to minimize trash, pollution and strain on nature.

Our add-on options, the geothermal mineral bath, and the waffle lunch, are also very popular.

Airport Taxi was created may 1st 2007 by former drivers of two taxi stations, Aðalbílar in Keflavík and BSH in Hafnarfjörður.
