Walk and Talk with My Uncle

Intimate and authentic tours of the hidden gems in South Iceland

Some people hurry through Iceland ticking off the “to do” list but missing out on the small things and the heart of the matter. In Mýrdalur, one of the most popular destinations in Iceland, it is well worth slowing down and digging into things just a bit deeper. At the same time, to learn more about the nature as well as the life and history of the local people, who live under one of the most powerful volcanoes in Iceland, the infamous Katla; buried under dense layers of ice waiting for the right moment to erupt and inundate the sandy plains with water and icebergs.

My Uncle avoids the crowded spots and connect directly with nature, history and the local culture. It offers exciting and friendly in-depth tours that help you learn about and appreciate some of the less known natural wonders of South Iceland. More information and booking: www.myuncle.is

The Tours:

Hjörleifshöfði - The first settlers of Iceland *
We walk to the top of Hjörleifshöfdi, an island on dry land, towering above the black sand by the coastline. Its history goes back to the days of the settlement of Iceland some 1200 years ago, it is a story about brotherhood, slavery and revenge.

Búrfell – the table mountain *
A walk to the table mountain Búrfell with a splendid view followed by a light supper, discussion and relaxation.

A Symphony of Waterfalls**
A walk that leads you by several fascinating waterfalls; the many wonderful sisters and brothers of the famous waterfall Skógarfoss. Away from the crowds but enjoying the company of a sequence of gorgeous rapids.

Fimmvörðuháls - a humbling hike
An exciting, challenging and strenuous day long walk over a pass between two glaciers. The view is boundless and breathtaking. You will get acquainted with the forces that created and shaped Iceland: fire and ice.
