Secret Local Adventures

Langholtskoti, 846 Flúðir

Secret local adventures is a family-owned business and was founded in 2016 and we are located 5 km. (about 3 miles) from the small town Flúðir. The company is owned by the friends Guðmann (Manni) and Hjálmur (Hjalli) but they also guide our river rafting tours!

Secret local adventures offer guided river rafting tours with local guides, down Hvítá river. Our customers will be able to experience breathtaking nature in Hvítá canyon that is only accessible by boat and of course we promise a day full of fun! We always travel in small and personal groups and customize the trip to your needs! Whether you are traveling with friends or family, we always have fun! We have two types of trips, the first is during the day but the second is a "summer special". During the summer we offer midnight trips where you can enjoy the Icelandic summer nights in a unique way!

Secret local adventures is one of very few companies that operate in dry suits. Our gear prevents water from getting inside the suit leaving our customers 90% dry when we finish the trip. The dry suits also keep you warm so you don't need to worry about the cold water ruining the trip!

We are located at the end of the Golden circle and are close to many nice restaurants, natural hot spring and other fun activities.

You can find all the information about our trips, gear and prices on our website, secretlocal.is. Please feel free to contact us with any questions by calling to one of these numbers +354 899-0772 (Manni) or +354 865-3511 (Hjalli) or send us an email: secretlocal@secretlocal.is.

Can't wait to have an amazing rafting trip with you this summer!

Hailed as the mightiest of Iceland's caves, its diversity and grandeur is unrivalled. This makes for an experience not to be forgotten. Just shy of 1600 meters / 5250ft, the cave features amazing colours and lava formations that lurk in the depths of the earth.

We offer a family friendly tour that all generations can enjoy, thanks to our all new signature walkway and feature lighting. For those who desire more physical activity we offer a half day tour to the caves end.

From Coast To Mountains

Ingólfshöfðabílastæði, 785 Öræfi

We are a local family company that has been running trips in southeast Iceland since 1991.

Our Summer Special is the popular Ingólfshöfði Puffin Tour. This adventurous journey starts on a tractor drawn hay cart, traveling 6 km across the black sands flats of the southeast coast. Our destination is the isolated headland and nature reserve, Ingólfshöfði, a home of thousands nesting seabirds, including puffins and the great skuas.

The historical cape is named after the first settler of Iceland Ingólfur Arnarson, who spent his first winter in Iceland at the cape in 874 AD.

For booking and more information, visit www.puffintour.is

We also offer Ingólfshöfði Photo Tour, for serious photographers to photograph puffins in early morning couple of times a week in summer.

Our Winter special is without a doubt, the Ice Cave Tour.

Einar Rúnar Sigurðsson, owner and lead guide of FromCoastToMountains is the pioneer of the ice cave tours in Iceland and has found and named most of the famous ice caves in Vatnajökull glacier.

In the wintertime we organize trips to ice caves ranging from short visit to an easily accessible ice cave or ice tunnel during our Ice Cave Tour, to our two day Ice Cave SleepOver Tour to more remote ice cave.

For booking and more information, visit www.icecaving.is

FromCoastToMountains also organizes various trips in the Vatnajökull region, mostly for individuals and small parties. We offer solutions for people that want to experience the nature and glaciers of southeast Iceland with native mountain guides.

If you would like to know more about our different private or small group tours, please visit: www.fromcoasttomountains.com/our-tours

Our Latest Adventure is our newest product, Café Vatnajökull in Fagurhólsmýri, which our family opened in 2017. This former local grocery store was the heart of our community for almost 40 years, but was closed for a decade until we bought it and converted it to be the base of our operations.

Our Café is an adventure in it self. Here you can meet the locals, see and buy our family products, get fresh Icelandic coffee from and try some of Icelandic special treats. Don´t be a stranger and come to visit us and experience a special atmosphere in the beautiful surrounding of Vatnajökull.

Inside the Volcano

Þríhnjúkagígur, 210 Garðabær

The dormant Þríhnúkagígur volcano is a unique natural phenomenon. By setting up the necessary gear and equipment, we've created a tour that opens the door to a new world.

To be able to experience this wonder, all you need is the willingness to do a moderate 45-50 minute hike (to get to the crater) and the guts to descend 120 meters/400 feet to the bottom of the crater in an open cable lift. The hike to the volcano is an integral part of the tour, not only because of the breathtaking scenery, but also because it's one of only two ways of getting to the base of the volcano. The other option is to use a helicopter.

Husafell Canyon Baths

Húsafell 1, 311 Borgarnes

Led by a knowledgeable local guide in English, this year-round tour begins with a short ride from the Hotel Húsafell to the trailhead in the remote Icelandic Highlands.

On this 2-hour tour we enjoy a relaxed walk among natural wonders not found in many guidebooks, including the spectacular two-tiered waterfall Langifoss. We'll also learn about Iceland's renewable energy practices, cross an icy stream of glacial meltwater and see the site to Ok jökull, Iceland's first glacier claimed by climate change.

The highlight of our excursion is a serene soak in the recently completed Húsafell Canyon Baths, a surreal hot spring paradise that must be seen to be believed. Enjoy half an hour of relaxing, recharging and breathing in the pure Icelandic air before heading back to Hotel Húsafell.

While the tour is not technically demanding, it does require the participant to walk un-aided over uneven terrain as well as down 64 steps to the canyon floor to reach the baths.

Iceland Yurt

Leifsstaðabrúnir 15, 601 Akureyri

Experience nature in a unique and comfortable way year round.

For the last six years, we have been living in Iceland with our two young kids in our Mongolian Yurt that we built ourselves. Living close to nature all year round. We want to give other people the opportunity to also have that experience: Listen to the birds singing, the sound of a raven flying by or enjoy hearing the raindrops falling on the tent while you snuggle up next to the woodstove with a good book.

Stay in your own wool isolated heated Mongolian Yurt in the Icelandic countryside close to Akureyri in summer and winter.

Our yurts (or Ger in Mongolian, which translates as home) are spacious. The big yurt is about 30m2 and 6 meters or 18 feet across. We also have smaller ones (for couples or young families) with a diameter of 5 meters. We have yurts available for 2 to 5 people. All yurts have comfortable beds and are equipped with a wood stove so you can get cozy at the fireplace or make tea/coffee or some Icelandic pancakes.

Our yurts are ideally situated at 2.5 miles or 4 km from road nr.1 or just a 6-minute drive from the town of Akureyri.

The camp is a perfect starting point for hikes or cross-country skiing directly from the front door of the yurt. And for exploring the North of Iceland, which has a lot of natural wonders to offer such as the Goðafoss waterfall, one of the prettiest waterfalls in Iceland, only 30 minutes drive away. And Lake Mývatn, a unique area even for Iceland, because there are many different things together: boiling mud pots, rich birdlife, lava formations, and beautiful nature. And Jarðböðin, the North Icelandic version of the Blue Lagoon, all at about 45 minutes drive. The North of Iceland is a lot less visited than the South and especially during the off-season September-May, you can still get the place to yourself.

There are many activities you can do around Akureyri: whale watching, horse riding, mountain biking, hiking to name a few. There are three geothermal swimming pools close by.

If you want to know more or want to get some secret tips or ideas for walks, trail runs or excursions just ask Erwin, he has been tour guiding in the area since 2012 and is working in winter as a ski -and snowboard instructor at the local ski resort, and likes to go out for a run or bike ride in his spare time. Or book a session outside to enjoy the healing sounds blending in with natural sounds and sensations under the bare sky.

Iceland Yurt also invites you to enjoy wellness treatments. In the Gaia God/dess Temple Gaia hofið which is in a unique hand-carved Mongolian Yurt, Thora Solveig leads ceremonies, meditations and guides conscious breath, and movements/dance. Thora (Solla) gives deep relaxation and sound healing with sacred instruments like Gong and crystal singing bowls. She also offers individual treatments with a special crystal tuning fork and pure essential oils for deep healing, cleansing, and balancing. Please reserve for couples, groups or individuals inside the temple or outside in nature where nature's serene and rejuvenating sounds merge with the healing frequencies and vibrations from the instruments.

We are looking forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to our yurts!

Solla and Erwin

Some words from our guests:

´This was such a fun and memorable experience for myself, my husband, and our 2-year old son.´

´We stayed at Iceland Yurt with three of us when travelling around Iceland in August. I have never slept in a yurt before and I am really impressed how clean and comfortable everything was. The yurt is really cozy with a stove in the middle, the beds are great and there are plenty of woollen blankets and pillows. We fell asleep listening to the light drizzle of rain outside and woke up next morning to a beautiful view over Akureyri and with a great breakfast lovingly prepared in a small cooling box. The hosts are so nice and welcoming and I'll gladly stay here again.´

´Amazing experience with Solla- felt like a part inside of me was awaken again and I felt new born after!! I felt like in peace surrounded with relaxing and nourishing healing bowls and gong sounds, touching the body and soul- and Solla guided me with a respectful and intuitive way through sounds and touch to remember my own being again.

A deep and healing experience - I warmly recommend to receive a healing session with Solla! So grateful to get the first private session with her!´ (in the Gaia Temple).

Fjallhalla Adventures

Miðholt 23, 806 Selfoss

We are a professional adventure company focusing on different kind of activities around Iceland. Erla, the founder and owner, lives in Reykholt and knows very well that she is lucky to be surrounded by the beauty of nature that the centuries of harsh weather and active ground has shaped it to. We offer hikes in the mountain surrounding the golden circle in the winter season, and then some longer hikes in the summer season. We also offer day tours in a minivan or jeep.

Experience Iceland as it is: We know Iceland-we know the roads-how to drive and how not to drive when the weather is unfortunate. Fjallhalla has local experienced drivers and guides that are very passionate about their jobs, to keep you safe and to share with you a experience of a lifetime.

Love what you do and do what you love. When hiking you breath in fresh air, you want to drink water but not soda, and you are basically allowed to eat anything, though you will realize after some hikes what is practical to bring. Challenging in the way that you must prepare beforehand what to eat and drink, as there are no shops on the way, so don´t eat all your food at the first stop! Rewarding in a way that you are getting in a better shape and will be having happy sore muscles the day after. Also, just a mind cleanser, because you are so busy preparing where to put your foot next, all your troubles will just have to wait for your mind to come back. With all the noise in big cities and the spam harassing us daily, you can find perfect silence closer to you than you might think.

We offer daytours to the Raufarhólshellir cave, eat fresh seafood and then go to learn more about the elves, ghosts and northern lights? Volcanic peninsula and the Blue lagoon. Roadtrip though the volcanic peninsula of Reykjanes which is a hidden gem and often forgotten. Golden circle with lunch at Friðheimar tomato farm. Iceland in a miniature at Snæfellsnes peninsula.

Iceland Activities

Mánamörk 3-5, 810 Hveragerði

"Written by Úlfar, son of the family"

When it comes down to choose a travel operator/company or just how to spend your day in Iceland, then there are endless possibilities, allot of good companies and allot of not so good companies that are just in it for the money! So why chose Iceland Activities?

Our company "Iceland Activities" is my family (my parents, my sister, grandma, girlfriend, brother in law and our closest friends and family). We did not create this company to become rich! We truly love what we do, we created this company to be able to do what we love every day and even on our days off, we are doing the same tours on our own.

We base all of our tours on our family experience, traveling together as a family since 1983 has built up a crazy amount of experience and knowledge of secret locations all over the South part of Iceland, some locations that only my family knows about still today. Creating tours that are well suitable to all level of fitness from families with young children to super adventures families or individuals.

On our journey from 1983 we have earned a well-spoken reputation as an outdoor family and known for seeking out the sports that were not as common, my father was one of the first ones to modify his jeeps and we are proud to be one of the first mountain bikers of Iceland and the only local MTB guides on the Hengill volcanic area, guides who grew up mountain biking and exploring the area on tracks made by the Icelandic sheep.

Today we offer a good selection of tours, ranging from two hours up to multi-day trips, and overnight camping tours focusing mostly on the off the beaten path experience. We can tailor made everything about the tour and set up the tour as you like, we could keep it more raw or have it quite luxurious and high class but still remote. We could keep the days more active or more easy going. It really depends on your choose, our aim is to enjoy the day with you.

Some of the things we offer:

Super jeep tours ● Mountain bike tours ● Hike tours ● Lava caving ● Surfing ● Team building ● food tasting ● Snowshoeing ● Sightseeing ● food tasting and culture tours ● zip line ● Skiing ● rock climbing ● camping ● Ice hockey ● Curling

Staff and guides: family members and close friends and we are all Icelandic :)

Locations: Iceland Activities family headquarters are located in Hveragerði, the Icelandic capital of hot springs. Hveragerði is 45 km east of the capital Reykjavík (30 minutes drive on highway 1).

Contact us and we will customize a tour for you, your friends or family. We specialize in having small groups and we never mix into big groups, so your experience will be better. When bigger groups book with us 6 persons or more then the tours are automatically private.

Citywalk

, 108 Reykjavík

Operating the "Free" walking tour, a unique walking tour in Reykjavík. Rated as the best tour in Iceland in terms of quality and price on TripAdvisor. Additionally we also run a pubcrawl, a tour on finance and receive various private inquiries.

Reykjavík Free Walking Tour
The famous two hour walking tour focuses on the history of Iceland, the evolution of Reykjavík as a town and Icelandic culture in general, laid out in an informative and comic way by english speaking Icelanders and history majors. This tour has no fixed price, instead it runs on the great Free Walking Tour model found allover the world where each participant sets the price of the tour afterwards instead of in advance. As a result, the guide relies solely on your contribution and works hard for his share in the donations. The "Free" classic tour departs multiple times a day all year around.

Small group VIP walking tour.
Similar to the "free" tour but operated in small groups with a fixed price per adult or child. Guaranteeing more personal interaction and time with the guide. This Reykjavík walking tour starts from Hallgrímskirkja and is all downhill, about 2 hrs and 30 minutes long. Slightly longer than the "free" tour.

Private Reykjavik walking tour
Starting from your preferred location and ending where you please. can be for big groups or small families and couples. We can also cater a private tour to include museums, accommodate cruise ships in multiple groups, include food and even a vehicle if preferred.

Pubcrawl
We pick the bars, you show up and spend as little or as much as you like. We've secured deals on the bars and the idea is that the price paid for the pub crawl comes back to you in discounted drinks. No one is forced to drink, and no shots or beverages are included in the price. The 20-30% discounts on the bars are well worth the price. Going to a different bar every hour, visiting a total of three bars before heading to a nightclub where we dance into the night. A wristband is included, which gives you the deals in the bars and a line jump into the club throughout the night!

Money Talks
This tour, covering the modern politics of Iceland and detailed Introduction to the economy of Iceland will give thirsty cultural travellers their money's worth. Learn how Iceland became one of the most expensive countries in the world recently and how our welfare system runs, with it's pro's and cons. Growing immigration, rising housing prices, arrival of global brands and the local's take on the sudden change. Also included are the latest news from Parliament! Hidden Worlds Walking Tours

Strandgata 6, 220 Hafnarfjörður

Hafnarfjördur is renowned for having one of Iceland's largest colonies of elves, dwarves and other spiritual beings, which (translating from the Icelandic) are collectively called "Hidden Folk". Centuries-old folklore says that whole families of these beings live in the rocks that are part of the town's centre, and we do not doubt it at all.

The Hidden Worlds tour takes you to their homesites. It stops at places like Hellisgerdi Park and the base of the cliff, Hamarinn, where it is said the Royal Family of the Hidden Folk lives. Along the way, the guide retells stories about the magical hidden worlds and describes the town's history and its development in harmony with the Hidden Folk.

Katla Geopark

Austurvegur 4, 860 Hvolsvöllur

Katla Geopark

Katla Geopark includes geological features of global significance. Over 150 volcanic eruptions have been recorded in the area since the 9th century. The eruptions created the landscape and influenced where people settled. Through the centuries, man and nature have affected the region's history. The area is constantly changing due to the volcanic activity.

The Geopark covers about 9% of Iceland, 9542 km2, and follows the borders of three municipalities, Skaftárhreppur, Mýrdalshreppur and Rangárþing eystra. About 2700 people live within the Geopark. Traditional agriculture has been the main source of employment, especially sheep and dairy farming. Cereal farming has recently increased. The villages of Hvolsvöllur, Vík and Kirkjubæjarklaustur developed as service centres for farmers. In recent years tourism has become increasingly important to the economy of the area.

Geology

Iceland lies astride the Mid-Atlantic Ridge where tectonic plates move apart from each other, causing a rift zone. A mantle plume exists below the country, centred beneath Vatnajökull ice cap. In South Iceland the interaction of the rift zone and the mantle plume results in complex and diverse volcanic activity.

Volcanic activity and its widespread effect on the area's nature and landscape make Katla Geopark very special. The Geopark is in the most volcanically active area of Iceland, and the volcanic systems at Eyjafjallajökull, Katla, and Grímsvötn are particularly active. The region is characterised by central volcanoes, eruptive craters and fissures, rootless cones, lava fields, table mountains (tuyas), and hyaloclastite ridges which trend SW-NE, like the rift zone.

Ice caps are prominent in the landscape, topping the highest volcanoes. Outlet glaciers and glacial rivers flow from them and glacial landforms, e.g. moraines and ice-dammed lakes, occur in the area. Large floods, usually glacier outbursts associated with subglacial eruptions, have formed outwash plains in the lowlands. The oldest bedrock in the area is about 2.5 million years old, and can be found at the base of Lómagnúpur, an old sea-cliff (671 m). Other interesting features in the Geopark are fossil-bearing xenoliths, and tephra layers which are useful for dating (tephrochronology).

Walk and Talk with My Uncle

Farmehouse Lodge, Skeiðflöt, 871 Vík

Intimate and authentic tours of the hidden gems in South Iceland

Some people hurry through Iceland ticking off the "to do" list but missing out on the small things and the heart of the matter. In Mýrdalur, one of the most popular destinations in Iceland, it is well worth slowing down and digging into things just a bit deeper. At the same time, to learn more about the nature as well as the life and history of the local people, who live under one of the most powerful volcanoes in Iceland, the infamous Katla; buried under dense layers of ice waiting for the right moment to erupt and inundate the sandy plains with water and icebergs.

My Uncle avoids the crowded spots and connect directly with nature, history and the local culture. It offers exciting and friendly in-depth tours that help you learn about and appreciate some of the less known natural wonders of South Iceland. More information and booking: www.myuncle.is
