Erpsstaðir Travel service

Erpsstaðir, Miðdölum, 371 Búðardalur

Erpsstadir is a dairy farm in Northwest Iceland, run by farmer Thorgrimur Einar Gudbjartsson and his family. Erpsstaðir are best known for their ice cream but they also produce the Icelandic Skyr, caraway cheese, white and wet cheese and various other dairy products which the "Cream Shop" at Erpsstaðir processes. All the milk for the production is from the dairy cows on the farm. For other ingredient we strives to use local, seasonal flavors whenever possible, such as rhubarb, dandelion honey, and blueberries from the Westfjords. The farmers at Erpsstaðir are pleased to offer visitors the chance to take a closer look at the world of milk production by seeing and learning of different shape the milk can take. Here you can experience a real Icelandic farm and buy homemade artisan dairy products firsthand. We are not distributing the products widely so far the best bet is to access the products directly from the farm.

Arctic Heli Skiing

Klængshóll, 621 Dalvík

Jökull Bergmann is the founder and lead guide of Arctic Heli Skiing. As Iceland's
first and only UIAGM-IFMGA certified mountain guide it is his and the entire team’s
pleasure to make your mountain adventure come true, be it in Iceland, Greenland or around the globe.

With over 20 years of experience guiding ski touring groups in the area, we extended our programs in 2008 to heli skiing, becoming the first heli ski operation in Iceland. Arctic Heli Skiing specializes in custom made exploratory Helicopter skiing adventures in the Troll Peninsula in Iceland and Greenland where we invite you to join us for a grand adventure of first descents, Northern Lights and skiing all the way down to the ocean, basking in the rays of the midnight sun. As Iceland’s premier heli ski operation we guarantee you that your safety and pleasure is our highest priority.
The potential for world class downhill skiing here is mind blowing, with vertical descents of up to 1500m or almost 5000ft. Our vast terrain covers more than 4000 square kilometers, or 1500 square miles of breathtaking Arctic mountains with terrain that suits every skiers ability be it extreme couloirs or wide-open glaciers. Our position just below the Arctic Circle with the mountains rising straight out of the sea allows for a skiing experience of a lifetime, skiing from summit to sea shore.

Check out our web page for great photos, videos and articles on skiing in Iceland. Our season starts at the end of February when we typically experience powder conditions and continues until the end of June with generally excellent corn skiing. The fact that the Troll Peninsula is surrounded by the Arctic Ocean makes for incredible opportunities for skiing right down to the ocean on stable coastal snowpack but also adds the excitement of Arctic weather and conditions. Throw in a mix of Northern lights, midnight sun, volcanic activity, hot springs, lava fields and a unique Viking culture and you will find that Iceland is a true adventure skiing destination.

We look forward to seeing you in the mountains.

Southcoast Adventure

Ormsvöllur 23, 860 Hvolsvöllur

Specializes in tailor-made private & luxury tours and all kinds of day trips around Iceland. Open schedule tours or private

Southcoast Adventure was established in 2009 by Þorgerður Guðmundsdóttir and Ársæll Hauksson. To begin with, there was just ONE jeep that was used to offer trips to tourists and mostly Icelanders who wanted to see more of their beautiful country. Two years later, their first member of staff was hired. The company today has 28 vehicles of all shapes and sizes, including snowmobiles and 4×4 buggies.

Initially, daily trips were offered to Eyjafjallajökul, Þórsmörk, and Fimmvörðuháls. Today, the company has grown considerably, and daily trips are offered in many vehicles to many destinations: snowmobile and buggy trips; twice daily departures to the ice cave; trips transporting luggage for those clients who are doing hikes to the various glaciers, mountains, and the interior; glacier ice-hikes as well as those up mountains and further inland.

All of this and custom-made trips/adventures for those who thirst for something off the beaten track. Many of the staff are also active members of the local Search and Rescue, and this obviously is a bonus when dealing with Icelandic nature and the sometimes rugged environment. Thankfully, their unique skills have not often been called upon, but it is a reassuring skill to have.

No two days are the same, and there is always a feeling of excitement for the next day at work and the adventures it may bring. The company prides itself on building incredible trips and memories for our clients, both locals and foreigners. Staff/guides are always encouraged to extend their knowledge as much as possible so that all clients are satisfied and the company aims always to improve their service. As mentioned, most of the staff/guides are from the surrounding areas – this is a huge advantage as it means that when needs arise, the local knowledge makes for a more comfortable working environment.

Southcoast Adventure offers luxury Super Jeep tours in South Iceland, such as day tours, guided hikes, or customized tours. Book your Iceland adventure now!

Our perfect little mix of Little Bit of Everything Buggy Adventure tour.

Kaldbaksferðir

Réttarholt 2, 601 Akureyri

Kaldbakur Tours offers during the winter trips up the mountain Kaldbakur which is 1.173m high, making it the highest peak on the northeastern side of Eyjafjörður, with panoramic views all the way east to Langanes and into the highlands of Iceland. Kaldbakur is known as one of Iceland’s Energy spots, and a trip up Kaldbakur is an unforgettable experience.

Kalbakur Tours operate two snow cats with a combined maximum capacity of 64 adults.  They are both open air so it is necessary to dress warmly according to weather conditions.  The journey up Kaldbakur takes approximately 45 minutes.   At the very top is a Cairn, which the Danish Kings Army erected in 1914.  We stop there for about 15 minutes to enjoy the magnificent view in all directions.  Our drivers point out various landmarks and are happy to answer any questions.  It’s also tradition to sign the guestbook, which is kept in the cairn.
Passengers can then choose to ski, snowboard, walk, sled or just sit back and enjoy the ride down again in the snow cat.  If the adventure bug bites, it’s possible to use one of our own design Icelandic snow sledges, especially made for adults. They are big and strong with enough room for two, great for the whole family.

The diverse environment ensures that all skiers can find a situation to suit even the most demanding taste. The area also offers well laid-out tracks for cross country skiing equipped with flood lighting until 10pm each day.

Hlíðarfjall offers Ski- and Snowboarding School for Children at the age 5-15 years old. It also offers longer ski and snowboard courses as private lessons. A ski and snowboard rental is operated at Hlíðarfjall, where skis, snowboards and all other equipment may be rented, including ski suits. The guests at Hlíðarfjall can also relax and enjoy refreshments in the service centre.

Summer Activities in Hlíðarfjall are from July until the first week of September. The mountain Hlíðarfjall is one of the prime skiing areas of Iceland. Akureyri ski resort is located just 10 minutes’ drive from the center of the town and is a great area for mountain biking and hiking during the summertime.

The chairlift Fjarkinn is the main lift during summer but this year the upper chairlift will be open as well, Fjallkona, for 5 weekends so it is possible to reach over 1000m height with lifts.

The only bike park in Iceland is in Hlíðarfjall with great trails throughout the mountain that also connect down into Glerárdalur and even all the way out to Kjarnaskógur forestry.

The area is also a great place for hikers which can enjoy the views of Eyjafjörður and hike in the beautiful landscapes above Akureyri. There are quite a few options to hike around the mountain and also possible to hike to the top, to the Harðarvarða cairn for example. Hiking guests can hike down or use the lifts to get back so almost anyone can come with to the mountain, young or old.

Hlíðarfjall opening period summer 2024 is as follows:

Fjarki chairlift – July 11 to September 8 – Thursday to Sunday

Fjallkona chairlift – July 27 to August 25 – Saturdays and Sundays

“Written by Úlfar, son of the family”

When it comes down to choose a travel operator/company or just how to spend your day in Iceland, then there are endless possibilities, allot of good companies and allot of not so good companies that are just in it for the money! So why chose Iceland Activities?

Our company ”Iceland Activities” is my family (my parents, my sister, grandma, girlfriend, brother in law and our closest friends and family). We did not create this company to become rich! We truly love what we do, we created this company to be able to do what we love every day and even on our days off, we are doing the same tours on our own.

We base all of our tours on our family experience, traveling together as a family since 1983 has built up a crazy amount of experience and knowledge of secret locations all over the South part of Iceland, some locations that only my family knows about still today. Creating tours that are well suitable to all level of fitness from families with young children to super adventures families or individuals.

On our journey from 1983 we have earned a well-spoken reputation as an outdoor family and known for seeking out the sports that were not as common, my father was one of the first ones to modify his jeeps and we are proud to be one of the first mountain bikers of Iceland and the only local MTB guides on the Hengill volcanic area, guides who grew up mountain biking and exploring the area on tracks made by the Icelandic sheep.

Today we offer a good selection of tours, ranging from two hours up to multi-day trips, and overnight camping tours focusing mostly on the off the beaten path experience. We can tailor made everything about the tour and set up the tour as you like, we could keep it more raw or have it quite luxurious and high class but still remote. We could keep the days more active or more easy going. It really depends on your choose, our aim is to enjoy the day with you.

Some of the things we offer:

Super jeep tours ● Mountain bike tours ● Hike tours ● Lava caving ● Surfing ● Team building ● food tasting ● Snowshoeing ● Sightseeing ● food tasting and culture tours ● zip line ● Skiing ● rock climbing ● camping ● Ice hockey ● Curling

Staff and guides: family members and close friends and we are all Icelandic :)

Locations: Iceland Activities family headquarters are located in Hveragerði, the Icelandic capital of hot springs. Hveragerði is 45 km east of the capital Reykjavík (30 minutes drive on highway 1).

Special Tours Wildlife Adventures – Whale Watching and Other Sea Tours!

Special Tours was founded in 1996 as an operator for puffin watching tours for tourists, and for scientific trips for school children. The company has since steadily branched out by offering whale watching, sea angling, northern lights by boat, Reykjavík by sea and numerous incentive & group tours.

Whale Watching

Join Special Tours for an informative and exciting whale watching tour! Our boats are located very close to the city centre in Reykjavík‘s famous Old Harbour. The most commonly spotted whales in Faxaflói Bay are minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, humpback whales and harbour porpoises. An experienced guide will share their extensive knowledge and fun facts about the wildlife we encounter at sea. While searching for the whales, enjoy the beautiful scenery all around you on our way out and back.

Special Tours is proud to offer three types of whale watching tours!

CLASSIC Whale Watching (3-3.5 hours) – Hop on board Andrea, one of the largest whale watching boats in Iceland, with plenty of space to view the whales both inside and outside! This tour operates year-round, and we are happy to be able to offer German guiding during the summer season. Wide Open

Aðalstræti 54a, 600 Akureyri

Wide Open is all about hiking, nature and exploring new horizons. We are based in Akureyri, and all our tours start from this cosy little arctic town surrounded by mountains with dazzling views over the fjord. We aim to stay off the beaten track and away from the crowds.

During the winter, when the snow is deep and the fjord is white, we put on our snowshoes and enter the frozen landscapes of the north. The snowshoes allow us to go outdoors without sinking to deep in the powder and they give us the necessary grip on patches of icy snow. If you like hiking, you will love snowshoeing.

The Snowshoe Delight is our daily scheduled snowshoe tour. But you can also book us for a private snowshoe hike, and we also have kids snowshoes for a Family Snowshoe Tour."

Icelandic Lava Show

Víkurbraut 5, 870 Vík

Icelandic Lava Show is the first and only live lava show in the world.
The show is located at Víkurbraut 5 in the beautiful village of Vík on the South Coast, in the heart of Katla UNESCO Global Geopark, surrounded by volcanoes, glaciers, beautiful nature, and black sand beaches. It takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes to drive from Reykjavík to Vík without stopping. We recommend that you arrive at the Icelandic Lava Show no later than 15 minutes before the show starts.

The show begins with a short opening from the show‘s host and then delves into a short educational video about Icelandic volcanism and why Iceland is such an active volcano island. Then Katla UNESCO GEOPARK and the volcanoes surrounding Vík are highlighted with a good explanation of why these volcanoes are considered among the most dangerous on the planet. After that, the show takes the audience 100 years back in time with a dramatic story about the catastrophic Katla volcano eruption in 1918.

The highlight of the show is when everyone is advised to put on their security goggles and the lava starts pouring into the showroom. The bright orange color as the lava starts flowing into the room is like sunrise and as the lava starts gliding over the ice it starts to bubble and crackle. The most surprising aspect, however, is the intense heat that radiates from the lava and the temperature in the showroom quickly rises. For a few moments, the only thing you want to do is sit there transfixed on the lava, mesmerized by the sensory onslaught as you watch the lava cool in front of your eyes, slowly turning from bright orange to grey to black. It is an experience unlike anything else you have ever experienced.

Soon after the lava flows into the room, the show‘s host starts playing with the lava, explaining the different aspects of it and what it really was that you just witnessed. As the lava continues to cool down, the host is able to demonstrate some really interesting aspects and wonders of lava and encourages the audience into an interactive Q&A session.

In the end, when the doors to the showroom are opened, it is usually a bright-eyed and flushed group of audience that walks out of the room, still wrapping their heads around the remarkable experience they just had in this wonderland of ice and fire. Most agree that Icelandic Lava Show is a must-see for everyone visiting Iceland.

Sænautasel

Jökuldalsheiði, 701 Egilsstaðir

Sænautasel is a remote traditional farmhouse on the Jökuldalsheiði moor, orginally erected in 1843. The place was inhabited a full century. In 1861 the moorland saw 16 such heath farms but during the Askja eruption of 1875 they mostly vanished. Sænautasel was abandoned in 1945. Among the last inhabitants was a boy of eleven who still pays tribute to his childhood dwellings in the summertime. The farm was rebuilt in 1992. It was partly damaged by heavy snowfall in 2009 but the damage has been repaired. Sænautasel served as a model for Nobel prize writer Halldór Laxness when he wrote the novel "Independent people". It is a highly interesting example of n-mid 19th century architecture and is only 5 km away from the main road. In summer refreshments are available at Sænautasel.

Hidden Iceland

Fiskislóð 18, 101 Reykjavík

Hidden Iceland is a boutique activity tour operator, authorised by the Icelandic Tourist Board, taking small groups on personalised trips across Iceland. We strive to make your trip the best it can be with our personalised service, expert knowledge and love of all things Iceland. Hidden was forged upon the idea that an experienced, enthusiastic guide can transform a trip from good to excellent.

The amazing sights of Iceland are obviously a large component of our products, with the other being our handpicked guides that will join you on your adventure. We set out to create trips around Iceland that we’d not only be proud but also excited to take our friends and family on, and that’s exactly what we have accomplished. This means we find the best and sometimes hidden sights across Iceland to make you feel like you are travelling with us, as a small group of friends, seeking out the magic of Iceland.

Scheduled tours
Hidden Iceland offers a variety of guided day tours and multi day tours from Reykjavik. Be it one day South Coast adventure with a glacier hike, multi day trip along the entire South Coast of Iceland, visiting our handpicked sites within the Golden Circle area or traveling through the less travelled West Fjords.

Private tours
Hidden Iceland offers a variety of private tours, from single day trips from Reykjavík to multi-day expeditions that cover the whole island that are completely customised to each group.

Being a small, independent tour operator we can’t do everything ourselves and that’s why we have looked team up with third party operators who share the same values as Hidden Iceland when we are designing private trips that include activities like ice caving, snowmobiling or going into the midst of Iceland in a specialised super jeeps. You can be sure that by booking with Hidden Iceland, or our friends, you will experience the best of Iceland in a safe, friendly and honest environment.
