Iceland Yurt

Leifsstaðabrúnir 15, 601 Akureyri

Experience nature in a unique and comfortable way year round.

For the last six years, we have been living in Iceland with our two young kids in our Mongolian Yurt that we built ourselves. Living close to nature all year round. We want to give other people the opportunity to also have that experience: Listen to the birds singing, the sound of a raven flying by or enjoy hearing the raindrops falling on the tent while you snuggle up next to the woodstove with a good book.

Stay in your own wool isolated heated Mongolian Yurt in the Icelandic countryside close to Akureyri in summer and winter.

Our yurts (or Ger in Mongolian, which translates as home) are spacious. The big yurt is about 30m2 and 6 meters or 18 feet across. We also have smaller ones (for couples or young families) with a diameter of 5 meters. We have yurts available for 2 to 5 people. All yurts have comfortable beds and are equipped with a wood stove so you can get cozy at the fireplace or make tea/coffee or some Icelandic pancakes.

Our yurts are ideally situated at 2.5 miles or 4 km from road nr.1 or just a 6-minute drive from the town of Akureyri.

The camp is a perfect starting point for hikes or cross-country skiing directly from the front door of the yurt. And for exploring the North of Iceland, which has a lot of natural wonders to offer such as the Goðafoss waterfall, one of the prettiest waterfalls in Iceland, only 30 minutes drive away. And Lake Mývatn, a unique area even for Iceland, because there are many different things together: boiling mud pots, rich birdlife, lava formations, and beautiful nature. And Jarðböðin, the North Icelandic version of the Blue Lagoon, all at about 45 minutes drive. The North of Iceland is a lot less visited than the South and especially during the off-season September-May, you can still get the place to yourself.

There are many activities you can do around Akureyri: whale watching, horse riding, mountain biking, hiking to name a few. There are three geothermal swimming pools close by.

If you want to know more or want to get some secret tips or ideas for walks, trail runs or excursions just ask Erwin, he has been tour guiding in the area since 2012 and is working in winter as a ski -and snowboard instructor at the local ski resort, and likes to go out for a run or bike ride in his spare time. Or book a session outside to enjoy the healing sounds blending in with natural sounds and sensations under the bare sky.

Iceland Yurt also invites you to enjoy wellness treatments. In the Gaia God/dess Temple Gaia hofið which is in a unique hand-carved Mongolian Yurt, Thora Solveig leads ceremonies, meditations and guides conscious breath, and movements/dance. Thora (Solla) gives deep relaxation and sound healing with sacred instruments like Gong and crystal singing bowls. She also offers individual treatments with a special crystal tuning fork and pure essential oils for deep healing, cleansing, and balancing. Please reserve for couples, groups or individuals inside the temple or outside in nature where nature's serene and rejuvenating sounds merge with the healing frequencies and vibrations from the instruments.

We are looking forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to our yurts!

Solla and Erwin

Some words from our guests:

'Amazing yurt, very cozy and warm. Beautiful view in such a quiet place'
'This place is truly amazing. The kids will be talking about their stay in the yurt for a long time to come´

´This was such a fun and memorable experience for myself, my husband, and our 2-year old son.´

´We stayed at Iceland Yurt with three of us when travelling around Iceland in August. I have never slept in a yurt before and I am really impressed how clean and comfortable everything was. The yurt is really cozy with a stove in the middle, the beds are great and there are plenty of woollen blankets and pillows. We fell asleep listening to the light drizzle of rain outside and woke up next morning to a beautiful view over Akureyri and with a great breakfast lovingly prepared in a small cooling box. The hosts are so nice and welcoming and I'll gladly stay here again.´

´Amazing experience with Solla- felt like a part inside of me was awaken again and I felt new born after!! I felt like in peace surrounded with relaxing and nourishing healing bowls and gong sounds, touching the body and soul- and Solla guided me with a respectful and intuitive way through sounds and touch to remember my own being again.

A deep and healing experience - I warmly recommend to receive a healing session with Solla! So grateful to get the first private session with her!´ (in the Gaia Temple).

Oddsskarð Skiing Area

Oddskarð, 735 Eskifjörður

One of the best skiing areas in Iceland is located in Oddskarð pass, between Eskifjörður and Norðfjörður. In the Oddskarð, there is a tow lift that goes up to 840 meters above sea level, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Reyðarfjörður.

The skiing area has two tow lifts and a children's lift, suitable facilities for snowboarders, and a ski lodge with catering facilities. The ski center also offers a skiing course for the youngest children.

Around Easter, there is usually a lot to do in Oddskarð. There is a family festival with many fun traditions, such as the "Sunday best" ski day, Easter egg hunt, and Gunnar Ólafsson's memorial tournament. Then the snowboarders are made high under their heads with neatly made snowboard tracks and platforms.

Open in winter Monday to Friday 14:00 to 20:00, Saturday to Sunday 10:00 - 16:00 as long as there is snow. Ski and snowboard rental.

Kaldbaksferðir

Réttarholt 2, 601 Akureyri

Kaldbakur Tours offers during the winter trips up the mountain Kaldbakur which is 1.173m high, making it the highest peak on the northeastern side of Eyjafjörður, with panoramic views all the way east to Langanes and into the highlands of Iceland. Kaldbakur is known as one of Iceland's Energy spots, and a trip up Kaldbakur is an unforgettable experience.

Kalbakur Tours operate two snow cats with a combined maximum capacity of 52 adults. They are both open air so it is necessary to dress warmly according to weather conditions. The journey up Kaldbakur takes approximately 45 minutes. At the very top is a Cairn, which the Danish Kings Army erected in 1914. We stop there for about 15 minutes to enjoy the magnificent view in all directions. Our drivers point out various landmarks and are happy to answer any questions. It's also tradition to sign the guestbook, which is kept in the cairn.
Passengers can then choose to ski, snowboard, walk, sled or just sit back and enjoy the ride down again in the snow cat. If the adventure bug bites, it's possible to use one of our own design Icelandic snow sledges, especially made for adults. They are big and strong with enough room for two, great for the whole family.

Iceland Activities

Mánamörk 3-5, 810 Hveragerði

"Written by Úlfar, son of the family"

When it comes down to choose a travel operator/company or just how to spend your day in Iceland, then there are endless possibilities, allot of good companies and allot of not so good companies that are just in it for the money! So why chose Iceland Activities?

Our company "Iceland Activities" is my family (my parents, my sister, grandma, girlfriend, brother in law and our closest friends and family). We did not create this company to become rich! We truly love what we do, we created this company to be able to do what we love every day and even on our days off, we are doing the same tours on our own.

We base all of our tours on our family experience, traveling together as a family since 1983 has built up a crazy amount of experience and knowledge of secret locations all over the South part of Iceland, some locations that only my family knows about still today. Creating tours that are well suitable to all level of fitness from families with young children to super adventures families or individuals.

On our journey from 1983 we have earned a well-spoken reputation as an outdoor family and known for seeking out the sports that were not as common, my father was one of the first ones to modify his jeeps and we are proud to be one of the first mountain bikers of Iceland and the only local MTB guides on the Hengill volcanic area, guides who grew up mountain biking and exploring the area on tracks made by the Icelandic sheep.

Today we offer a good selection of tours, ranging from two hours up to multi-day trips, and overnight camping tours focusing mostly on the off the beaten path experience. We can tailor made everything about the tour and set up the tour as you like, we could keep it more raw or have it quite luxurious and high class but still remote. We could keep the days more active or more easy going. It really depends on your choose, our aim is to enjoy the day with you.

Some of the things we offer:

Super jeep tours ● Mountain bike tours ● Hike tours ● Lava caving ● Surfing ● Team building ● food tasting ● Snowshoeing ● Sightseeing ● food tasting and culture tours ● zip line ● Skiing ● rock climbing ● camping ● Ice hockey ● Curling

Staff and guides: family members and close friends and we are all Icelandic :)

Locations: Iceland Activities family headquarters are located in Hveragerði, the Icelandic capital of hot springs. Hveragerði is 45 km east of the capital Reykjavík (30 minutes drive on highway 1).

Contact us and we will customize a tour for you, your friends or family. We specialize in having small groups and we never mix into big groups, so your experience will be better. When bigger groups book with us 6 persons or more then the tours are automatically private.

Hlíðarfjall Ski Area

Hlíðarfjall, 600 Akureyri

For nearly 40 years, the mountain Hlíðarfjall has been one of the prime skiing areas in Iceland.
The hallmarks of Hlíðarfjall are high quality snow, extensive cross country tracks and exciting ski slopes with a breathtaking view of Eyjafjörður, extending as far as Mount Herðubreið, the queen of Icelandic mountains. Recently purchased snow blowers are capable of providing fine skiing conditions during the entire winter. The diverse environment ensures that all skiers can find a situation to suit even the most demanding taste. No matter whether you are a beginner or thoroughly experienced in tackling challenging mountain slopes, you will at all times be able to seek advice and assistance from skiing and snowboard trainers, who will demonstrate the basics, fine tune your style, or introduce you to the Carving technique.

Our favourites, the children, are cared for at the Hlíðarfjall Ski School for Children. Longer ski and snowboard courses are also on offer. A ski and snowboard rental is operated at Hlíðarfjall,
where all equipment may be rented, including ski suits.
