Hotel Staðarborg is an accommodating and recent hotel with 30 rooms, located in the heartland of eastern Iceland in the valley Breiðdalur. Staðarborg opened in June 2000. It is situated in the eastern part of Iceland, in the valley Breiðdalur, between Egilsstaðir and Höfn. Ogurtravel offers the outdoor challenge of hiking and kayaking in the beautiful surroundings. Enjoy the area exploring nature that is steeped in history and folklore.

The accommodation is a luxurious lodge built in 2009. It has 8 double bedrooms with a private toilet and sink. Showers are shared. Large kitchen and lounge area with leather sofas and a television. On the patio is a hot tub and a large gas BBQ.

Informations about the guesthouses
Situated in a very beautiful place where anyone can go camping and hiking in a wonderful scenary, a good place for children to play and where a little forest just above the summer houses where anyone can walk through, indeed a very comfortable place to stay and just perfect to spend a vacation.
There are thirteen (13) guesthouses which are all newly built from the years 2002 and 2003 and more will be added. Each guest house are with panels and parkets on the floor and each has its own terrace.
Each guest house has a shower room, toilets, dining room and living room. Soaps, toiletries, dishtowels and table towels are also provided.
Appliances provided for each guest house includes radio cassette with CD player, television, kitchen wares, microwave oven and a refrigerator

HIGHLAND ADVENTURE
FISHING FOR TROUT AND CHAR

Fish for truly wild brown trout and Arctic char in the purest mountain lakes and streams amidst the untouched wilderness.
Once inaccessible to all but a few, this region is traversed by gravel roads which only open during the summer months. Your personal guide will transport you by four-wheel-drive vehicle across the black sands and lava fields, past bizarre volcanic landforms, through unbridged rivers and geothermal areas, deep into the interior.
If you are an angler with a sense of adventure then this tour will tick all the boxes: exciting fishing in remote, awesome locations for beautiful brown trout and hard-fighting Arctic char weighing up to 8lbs (3.5kgs).
Floating lines and small black flies are vital although it’s good to have slow sinking lines for use in deeper water. A special selection of Icelandic trout flies can be provided if requested in advance.

Self-catering accommodation is included in traditional huts and basic lodges. Longer trips available.

FISHING FOR SILVER BARS OF SALMON

With over one hundred self-sustaining Atlantic salmon rivers in Iceland, each fishing up to 20 rods per day, there is a wealth of fishing opportunities to enjoy in this unique country. However, to first-time anglers, visitors new to the island or salmon junkies who want to escape for just a day or two, finding out where to go, what’s available, how to get there and sourcing tackle hire can be a daunting prospect.
By booking a day trip in the company of a professional angling guide everything will be taken care of so all you have to do is wear the appropriate clothing and be ready on collection. The ability to cast a fly rod (9-12 feet long) will help you to make the most of your time on the water, but it is not necessary. Fly fishing instruction can be provided on the river and your day will be planned to suit individual or group requirements.
Amongst those rivers which may be selected for your fishing, (depending on the latest catches and availablity), are the River Sog, River Korpa, River Laxa, River Brynjudalsa,
River Hvita, River Stora Laxa, River Affall, River Thvera, River Skoga, River Ranga Junction and others.

Iceland hunting guide is for anyone who is looking for guided hunting experience in Iceland. We organize waterfowl tours where we hunt geese and ducks, upland tours were we hunt for rock ptarmigan  and seabird hunting tours where we hunt for auks. Our trips can take anything from a half day and up to a few days, depending on what you are looking for. You will be hosted by our small team of hunting and shooting experts in Iceland. All our Guides are experienced hunters offering real Icelandic hunting experience.

We are a full time guide service, authorized by Icelandic Tourist Board that specializes in game bird hunting in Iceland. Our hunting season starts the 20th August and ends 25th April so we hunt 8 months a year.

Our goal is to make it easy for you to go hunting when traveling to Iceland. Whether you want to hunt for half a day or a week we will be at you side, guiding you to a hunt that you have never experienced before.

In complete peace and serenity, the exclusive guesthouse is located near the riverbank, with a beautiful view of the landscape and the river. The house is furnished with everything you could wish for and the heart of the guesthouse is the large main room. The main room is arranged with kitchen, dining and living area all in one room. From here there are fabulous views and plenty of space to enjoy good food, wine and talk about the day’s experiences. From the living area there is direct access to the terrace, where, if you are lucky, you can watch the aurora borealis dance in the skies during the evening and night. In addition to the main room there are 4 double rooms with private bathrooms and TV. As the guesthouse serves as a fishing lodge from late August until late October, a room for cleaning fish, with freezer and ice machine, is essential . The ice machine also comes in handy when preparing a gin and tonic which is best enjoyed in the hot tub next to the sauna house. All in all, the lodge has a high standard in accordance with the needs of our guests! It is beautifully located within the landscape and perfectly designed for the ultimate experience of Seglbúðir’s magnificent scenery.

Leirubakki is an old manor farm in South Iceland, only 100 kilometres from Iceland’s capital, Reykjavík. Today the farm boasts a new hotel and an outstanding restaurant, in addition to facilities for meetings and conferences.  It is also an information centre for tourists and hosts the Hekla Centre, where one can enjoy an innovative and stylish exhibition on Iceland’s most famous and active volcano, Hekla.

Hekla is a massive, lofty mountain, 1,491 metres high, towering over the district to which Leirubakki belongs.

Leirubakki also has a camping ground and horse rentals, arranging horseback-riding trips lasting from one hour up to many days.  It is possible to purchase fishing permits at Leirubakki: the farm is located on the Ytri Rangá river, one of the main salmon rivers in Iceland, where over 14,000 salmon are caught each summer.

A wide variety of other services are available for purchase at Leirubakki, and the staff of Hotel Leirubakki can readily make additional arrangements depending on the needs and wishes of one and all.

Camping site is open from May until the end of September.

The main reason why people stay in Breidavik hotel is the Latrabjarg bird-cliff. You can watch and take pictures of the Puffins very close, sometimes you can even touch them. You have to be very careful, because there is always a chance of falling down.

Nearby the hotel area there is a wide golden sand beach, a length of more than 5 km. Dunes and sand, winding streams and a number of birds is also impressive, so we highly recommend a few hours walk on the beach.

We have good news for a fishing enthusiasts. In the hotel area is a lake where you can fish. There are a lot of fish, you just need to catch it.

Ice fishing:

We begin the tour by driving for about an hour until we get to lake Langavatn.
Lake Langavatn is situated on a plateau so it is frozen over from December until March/April.

Hellishólar offers a 18 hole golf course with the rivers Þverá and Grjótá running through it. Surrounded by breathtaking nature, the golf course is both demanding and fun. Golf clubs and golfcarts are for rent. In addition, there is a driving range, pitch and put area and a par three mini course.  We also offer golf lessons for everyone, with special lessons available for ladies and couples. The school organises courses for 3 to 4 days which include instruction, accommodation and full board. All the instructors are highly qualified and the courses suit both beginners and those more advanced.

At Hellishólar you also find a horse rental, for individuals or groups, in association with our neighbouring farm, 2 km away. Guided tours around the area are available and suit people from any age group, skilled riders or first-timers.

Finally, Lake Hellishólar is well stocked with trout, with around a thousand rainbow trouts released into the lake each summer, weighing from 1.5 to 4 pounds. A large amount of oxygen in the water and good conditions make the trout being very lively. Fishing rods for children and grown-ups are for sale at Hellishólar.

Our restaurant and conference room can seat up to 180 people and features a large screen television, an overhead projector and karaoke equipment. It is an ideal venue for all kinds of gatherings, for axample birthdays, weddings, meetings and conferences. It also houses a regular restaurant over the summer season and is open from day till night. Our fabulous chefs take care of you, and offer anything from snacks to gala dinners. Hólaskjól is located on the highland route, Fjallabaksleið Nyrðri, about 35 km. from the main # 1 road.  You pass through the Skaftártunga area, road # 208, onto the Fjallabaksleið Nyrðri, road # F208. This is a coarse gravel road, but in summer it is passable by all types of vehicles. There are no unbridged rivers on the way.

From Hólaskjól it is about 6 km. to the Eldgjá canyon. Shortly before you reach Eldgjá there is a small unbridged river, that quite often can only be forded by 4X4 vehicles.

Hólaskjól is located at the foot of Lambaskarðshólar hills, at the edge of a lava field originating from an eruption in Eldgjá during the years 934-940. Hólaskjól is in a peaceful, sheltered area with beautiful surroundings. Only a 5 minute walk away is a very impressive waterfall in the river Syðri Ófæra. Itt resembles a smaller version of the well-known Gullfoss, or Golden Falls, and is therefore often called Little Gullfoss or Silver Falls.

At Hólaskjól there is the main lodge on two floors, with sleeping bag accommodations in bunks for 61 persons. There are WC´s and showers on both floors and also cooking facilities with gas stoves and utensils for cooking and eating. 

There are also a few huts that are possible to rent with or without bed linen. The huts have gas stoves, utensils for cooking and eating, WC, and cold running water.

There is good space available for tents and campers. The campsite has tables and chairs, toilets and showers.

Ekra has 2 cottages, erected in  2005. One disposes of a bedroom w. double bed while the other has a double bed and a berth. Both boast well-garnished, convenient living rooms, a full-fledged kitchen and a WC with shower.

Bed covers, linens and towels are available and grills are at hand for outdoor-cooking.

Ekra offers a fine view of river Lagarfljót and the surrounding girdle of mountains. Idyllic lakes and ponds are but a stone´s throw away, some of which are renowned for copious angling possibilties.
Service centre Egilsstaðir is only 30 km. away, as is the picturesque former school centre of Eiðar with romantic woodland walks and nice islets. The 19th century traditional farm of Galtastaðir is around the corner, portaying the long lost architecture and ways of rural Iceland of days past. The luring hiking area of Stórurð is but a few miles away, offering a unique Iceland outdoor experience. Hotel Bjarkalundur is the oldest summer hotel in Iceland and has been operated since 1947. This family owned hotel is by many considered a landmark and has undoubtedly stood the test of time. The hotel is situated in one of the most magnificent spots in Iceland, at the footsteps of the amazing west fjords. Mount Vadalfjoll, famous for their majestic beauty, are also located nearby straight north of the hotel. Their most prominent parts are two ancient, basaltic volcanic plugs which have withstood erosion better than their surroundings. River Brunná in Oxarfjordur is a gin clear arctic char and sea trout river on the north/east coast of Iceland The number of rods allowed in the river are three (3). The river is a fly fishing river only! Brunná flows through a wonderful surroundings, offering areas of unique beauty and diversity. The river flows through brushwood country and at its lower reaches it combines with a branch of the glacier river Jokulsá, creating the much sought after visible line of clear and mud-colored water. The angling season for Brunná begins in April with the sea run and brown trout as the main catch. From thew middle of June to the end of season (October) the arctic char and brown trout is for the most parts the main catch.

Arnanes Country Hotel is a family-run company, established in May 1993 in our own home, located in Nesjahverfi, 1,5 km from Arnanes.
In August 1993 we bought a part of the farm Arnanes (30 ha of land and 2 houses) and early spring 1994 we moved our home to Arnanes.

Our former home then became a guesthouse and still it is a part of our hotel with 5 rooms, a sitting room and living rooms, complimentary coffee and tea,TV and free internet access just like in all of our rooms.

1995 we renowated our house in Arnanes, starting with 4 rooms w. shared facilities on first floor with panoramic view to glaciers and mountains in Vatnajökull National Park.

In May 1996 we started our riding tours from Arnanes , 16 years later we are still going strong. The first 12 years I managed the riding tours myself but for the last 4 years my youngest son (23 years old) has been taking care of it.

In June 1997 we opened our restaurant in Arnanes with seats for 40 people.
At the same time we built 3 bungalows here in Arnanes, each with 2 rooms with bath.

Since then we have not built any new houses but instead we have tried to keep everything in good shape.

Sænautasel is a remote traditional farmhouse on the Jökuldalsheiði moor, orginally erected in 1843. The place was inhabited a full century. In 1861 the moorland saw 16 such heath farms but during the Askja eruption of 1875 they mostly vanished. Sænautasel was abandoned in 1945. Among the last inhabitants was a boy of eleven who still pays tribute to his childhood dwellings in the summertime. The farm was rebuilt in 1992. It was partly damaged by heavy snowfall in 2009 but the damage has been repaired. Sænautasel served as a model for Nobel prize writer Halldór Laxness when he wrote the novel "Independent people". It is a highly interesting example of n-mid 19th century architecture and is only 5 km away from the main road. In summer refreshments are available at Sænautasel.
