Láki Tours

Hafnarbraut 14, 510 Hólmavík

Láki Tours offers responsible whale watching from Hólmavík in the south-eastern Westfjords area called Strandir. The most common whales in the fjord are humpback whales. They are known for their spectacular acrobatic behavior which can include flipper and tail slapping, its curiosity around boats and breaching.

Join our knowledgeable crew for a great time out in the Steingrimsfjordur Fjord. This fjord is incredibly sheltered from most wind directions meaning the boat trip is usually very smooth and calm plus tours rarely have to be canceled. Since the whales often stay very close to land this 2-hour tour with almost 100% sighting guarantee is one of the shortest whale watching options in Iceland. It is the perfect trip for families, provides golden opportunities for photographers and is ideal for travelers who are afraid of getting sea sick.

North Sailing Whale Watching

Gamli Baukur, Hafnarstétt 9, 640 Húsavík

The eco-friendly whale watching company

Enjoy the great variety of marine life in the unique environment of Skjálfandaflói bay aboard North Sailing's meticulously renovated oak boats. Since its founding in 1995, North Sailing has been a pioneer of sustainable tourism, as well as being the first company in Iceland to offer regular whale watching tours. Whale watching is a popular activity for visitors to Iceland, and the company's operations have grown fast.

The fishing village of Húsavík is now renowned for its spectacular whale watching opportunities, and Skjálfandaflói bay is one of only a handful of places in the world where the blue whale, the largest mammal on earth, is known to visit regularly.

North Sailing's whale watching tours have given Húsavík the reputation of being Europe's whale watching capital. One of North Sailing's most ambitious goals is to empower sustainable tourism, and the company has put a lot of care and skill into renovating and maintaining its fleet of old oak fishing-ships.

First company in the world to offer carbon-free whale watching

On July 12th, 2015, the renovated schooner Opal, with its uniquely designed electrical system, was launched. The launching marked a world-wide first: Offering carbon-free whale watching tours by using only wind and electricity for propulsion.

In 2016, North Sailing will offer two kinds of carbon-free whale watching tours, with up to 5 tours scheduled per day. The company's policy is clear, and in a few year's time its whole fleet will be entirely carbon-free and driven by electricity.

North Sailing has received a number of awards and acknowledgements for its eco-friendly operations and innovative new designs, for example it received the Environmental Recognition of the Icelandic Tourist Board for the second time in 2015, as well as being awarded the silver prize at the coveted World Responsible Tourism Awards for "Best Innovation for Carbon Reduction".

North Sailing offers a variety of exciting tours, such as whale watching tours in Hjalteyri (approx. 15-minute drive from Akureyri), whale watching in Tromsø, Norway, skiing in the Lyngen Alps, Norway, and week-long expeditions in Scoresby Sund on the east coast of Greenland.

Láki tours

Nesvegur 5, 350 Grundarfjörður

Láki Tours offers responsible whale watching tours in West Iceland. We also operate puffin tours and sea angling trips from Grundarfjörður in Snæfellsnes.

Whale Watching in Snæfellsnes
West Iceland is a paradise for whale enthusiasts and famous for its unique whale species. Snaefellsnes is the only area in Iceland where orcas are seen on a regularly base. Another unique species around Snaefellsnes are sperm whales. Sperm whales are the largest toothed whales in the world and one of the deepest diving whales. Other species we regularly see on our whale trips are humpback whales, minke whales, pilot whales, dolphins, and sometimes even blue whales. During winter, our 3-hour whale watching tours start from Grundarfjörður. In summer, we operate our whale trips from Ólafsvík. Our tours take place on a comfortable boat and are suitable for the whole family. Seeing the magnificent landscape around the glacier and the famous mount Kirkjufell from sea is an additional highlight.

Puffin tours from Grundarfjörður
A nature reserve on the nearby island Melrakkaey attracts hundreds of puffins and other seabirds. Our one-hour tour on a traditional oak boat offers the maximum potential to see these amazing birds in their nesting environment. It is wonderful to see puffins lined up along the edge of the cliffs like sentries on watch while the other birds wade and warble through the waves around the island with its basalt columns. A slow cruise around the island gives photographers a golden opportunity to capture the variety of birds on the island through their lenses. This amazing trip is not just about birds - the setting for the trip with Mt. Kirkjufell dominating the scenery also lends enchantment to the view.

Sea-angling & birdwatching from Grundarfjörður
On this 2-hours boat tour we head out to the nearby island, Melrakkaey, a nature reserve where many birds nest, such as puffins, shags, cormorants, kittiwakes and more. We sail close to the cliffs to get the best view and to photograph these beautiful ocean birds. Then we move into deeper waters for some sea-angling. Each passenger is given a fishing rod to try to hook a fish or two and for this, all necessary fishing equipment is provided. It is all action and excitement on board as the thrill of the chase is felt with passengers trying to catch a big one.

Keli SeaTours/Keliseatours.is

Keli SeaTours is a small family-whale watching company in Akureyri. Three brothers named Egill-, Halldór- and Sævar Áskelssons bought in October 2015 a 40 year old and almost 30 tonn oak boat. The boat was scheduled for disassembly and to be sold for scraps. Áskell Egilsson (Keli) was our father. He along with his his colleagues built this boat back in 1975 in Akureyri. In 2015 we got it back and renovated it after its 40 years of sailing and fishing all around Iceland.

We would love to take you out on our traditional oak boat for close encounters with the gentle giants that come to our beautiful Eyjafjordur. If you are looking for the authentic whale watching experience in Iceland. Scheduled tours for whale watching from May to end of September and a possibility of private trips and sea-angling. We have free coffee, hot chocolate and some biscuits on board for our customers. We also have warm overalls (floating suits) for everyone on board to keep everbody warm and safe and ofcourse we have a toilette on board. Note, it is better to wear good walking shoes, and take gloves and hat with you. Estimated time for a trip of whale watching is 3 hours. Be sure to check us out. Tel. 546-7000
