The Traveling Viking
The Traveling Viking is a family-run tour operator offering tours with local tour guides comfortable cars, highly qualified drivers and guides, humor, good spirit, and knowledge of North Iceland. We are based in Akureyri, North Iceland.
We specialize in smaller groups and tailor-made tours, however, no group is too big for The Traveling Viking. The Traveling Viking was founded in the year 2008 and has ever since focused on personal service, slow travel experience along with developing winter tourism in and from Akureyri North Iceland. We have an excellent variety of tour options all year round. Like Lake Mývatn, Waterfall Dettifoss, Northern light tours, and meet local people. We also have winter activities such as snowshoeing and ice fishing, snowmobiling, kayaking, etc.
We do focus on sustainability in our tours and by following our sustainability policy, we make sure that our impact is as little as possible on the environment and that local communities benefit from our visit.

Enjoy a fun day out suitable for all the family on one of our kayak tours.
Our sit-on-top kayaks can be rented by the hour for both guided and non-guided tours. Sit-on-top kayaks (single and double) are very stable, easy to get in and out of, and you will have no feeling of confinement making them ideal for all abilities.
Our kayak rental is operated from the picturesque village of Hjalteyri (20km from Akureyri, pick up available). This peaceful location is ideal as you can choose between kayaking on a lake, in a small harbour or out on the fjord depending on weather conditions and your own ability.
Feel at one with nature as you experience kayak fishing, whale spotting or just relax on your kayak. At the end of your kayak tour you can relax in the hot tub on the beach at Hjalteyri with views of the fjord and mountains.
