Mosfellsbaer Golf Club
A ten-minute drive northeast from Reykjavík is the picturesque suburb of Mosfellsbær, and its amazingly situated golf club. Golfklúbbur Mosfellsbæjar has two courses: The championship 18-hole layout is called Hlíðavöllur, laying at the edge of the bay Kollafjörður, and a quaint 9-hole course in the hills of the Mosfell Valley, named Bakkakot. Hlíðavöllur will host the 2020 National Strokeplay Championship, where the nations best players will attend.
The Hlíðavöllur course is truly a feast for the eyes. The very first impression is the stunning views and great food in the modern clubhouse. Perfectly visible on clear days over the water looms the snow-capped glacier of Snæfellsjökull. The 18-hole championship course plays down and along the ocean, with the bay and majestic Esja mountain as a backdrop. In the summer, colonies of Arctic Terns nest by the shores of the 12th -14th holes. It’s quite an experience to get so close. The relatively ample fairways, large greens and excellent condition of the course will assure that your round is nothing but pleasure! Meanwhile, the jagged rocks of age old lava wait in the rough to challenge expert golfers.
Bakkakot is a smaller 9-hole course, playing into the hills of a beautiful valley. As everyone knows, trees are a rarity in Iceland, so you’ll be happy to see these tree-lined fairways! Brilliant samples of Poplar, Icelandic Birch, and Pine trees make your walk up and down the hillside a memorable experience. While the small greens with super putting conditions test your wedges and short game.
