Midgard Base Camp
Located in the heart of South Iceland, Midgard is the centre for authentic adventure travel. Midgard Base Camp offers unique accommodation with an exclusive access to a rooftop hot tub and sauna. Of course, there is also a restaurant and bar, open to everyone. Midgard Adventure, a tour operator & travel agency, is also located in the same building. All the staff is well educated and are experts of the area, always willing to help out planning and optimizing our guests itineraries.
Excellent location
Midgard’s location is superb to explore all the major attractions in South Iceland as well as the off-the-beaten path highlands. The atmosphere is relaxed and the ambience is super friendly. The Midgard team is always ready to assist you with your travel plans and give you local advice.
Hostel and hotel style accommodation
Midgard offers both bunk beds and private rooms (double or family). The bunk beds are uniquely designed with top quality mattresses, privacy curtains, bedside lights, electricity, lockable drawers and blackout blinds. In total we have 62 beds.
Delicious food
Midgard Restaurant offers “FEEL GOOD FOOD” that enriches the mind and body. It serves food based on the Icelandic heritage in a casual and relaxed atmosphere. The chefs focus on offering produce from the local community. All diets are catered for, vegetarian and vegan as well as meat and fish eaters.
Superb facilities
All guests have exclusive access to Midgard’s rooftop sauna and hot tub where you can enjoy the view of Eyjafjallajökull icecap and volcano which became famous in 2010 when its eruption had global impact. During winter you might experience the magical Northern lights and during the summer months you can enjoy the mesmerizing midnight sun. Our communal area is big and perfect to relax and mingle after a day out exploring. Other facilities include: a small guest kitchen, laundry machine, a drying cabinet, outside terrace, high speed WI-FI in all the building and plenty of free parking.
Raw and trendy design
Midgard is located on the outskirts of Hvolsvöllur town in a former industrial building with unobstructed scenic views to the mountains and Eyjafjallajökull icecap. The design was done in collaboration with HAF studio, a creative young Icelandic design team. The building was changed into a modern centre with a trendy, cozy feel. The rawness of the building was kept and elements from nature and adventure travel were incorporated into the design.
Midgard’s story
Midgard in the Norse Mythology is the name for “the world” inhabited by humans.
The story of the Midgard family goes back to 2010 when Midgard Adventure was founded. A few years in the tour operating business the idea of a Base Camp was born. The Midgard family wanted to create a friendly place with a family feel - an extension to our homes. A place to unwind, relax, eat good food, mingle and make new friends. We wanted to spend more time with the guests after the tours and that’s how the idea of Base Camp was born.

Midgard Adventure
Midgard Adventure – a tour operator and travel agency is also based under the same roof at Midgard. Join us for a day tour to Þórsmörk or a multi-day tour to the highlands.
