Akureyri Hostel

Akureyri HI Hostel has been a part of the Hostelling International since it opened 1967. The Hostel has been run by the same family for all these years and they all share the same passion for the Hostel, to welcome travelers from all over the world and make them feel comfortable and enjoying their stay.

Accommodation Information

The Hostel offers different types of rooms; mixed dorm rooms, single room, twin with and without bath, and group / family rooms for three to six persons. Two fantastic summerhouses in the garden, each house has kitchen, living room and bathroom, each can accommodating eight persons (twin room, four person room and upstairs two beds) plus hot tub is included in the price. We also have a small cabin with three beds, toilet and a sink.

All rooms include; reading light over every bed, table & chairs, mirror, TV, hairdryer, free Wi-Fi and pillows & duvets. All rooms come with access to two kitchens that are well equipped for cooking and good dining rooms. There is a TV room with tables, chairs and a sofa.

We offer sleeping bag accommodation, bed linen can be provided and made up beds.

Laundry is possible at the hostel.

There is a big outside area with tables, chairs and BBQ.

Akureyri HI Hostel is located in the center of the town, conveniently close to the city center. All places needed are in a walking distance; 10 min walk to the city center, 5 min walk to Glerártorg shopping center, 1 min walk to Bónus supermarket (the cheapest in Akureyri), 5 min to a bakery and 7 min to local’s favorite restaurant. Most of other main attractions of the town are within walking distance.

In Akureyri there are city buses that are for free. They go past the Hostel every hour.

Akureyri H.I. Hostel is the perfect place to stay on to visit all the pearls that mother nature offers in the North, like Lake Mývatn which is known for its natural beauty – landscape, animals and bird life, Goðafoss one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland, Dettifoss the most powerful waterfall in Europe, Húsavík known as the whale watching town, Ásbyrgi an enclosed canyon, about 3,5 km long and 1,1 km wide, surrounded by cliffs which reach as high as 100 m. Skagafjörður where rafting can be done, Grímsey where people get the change to step over the polar circle line and see all the beautiful bird life. And many other pearls that north Iceland has to offer.
