Facilities and features
Accomodation: ÁS Guest House is a two floor lodging with a “home away from home” feeling. The accommodations, part of a three floor house built on the side of a hill overlooking the fjord, are suitable for individuals, families, and small groups.
The upper floor has four large bedrooms easily accommodating up to 10 adults, with the possibility of adding extra cots for children. One bedroom has a private bathroom and, if desired, may be combined with the adjoining bedroom to form a “suite.” The other two bedrooms have a shared bathroom in the hallway.
The ground floor consists of one additional bedroom with a half bathroom, a large shared living room and dining area, a roomy, fully-equipped kitchen and two dining alcoves. Full linen service and Wi-Fi are included. The host/caretaker is conveniently located in an separate apartment on the first floor.
Year round, the house offers magnificent views of the Eyjafjordur fjord as well as the Akureyri harbor. One can sit comfortably by the windows for a live “post card” view of the surroundings or step out on one of three balconies on the upper floor.
The location of ÁS Guest House is ideal for exploring the wonderful city of Akureyri. Just across the street is the beautiful Akureyri Junior College, founded in 1880, and the renowned Akureyri Botanical Garden, opened in 1912.
Within a five minute walk are the town’s swimming pool (heated geothermally year-round), St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Akureyri Church (Lutheran), and the Akureyri Art Museum and Gallery.
A few steps further and you’ll find yourself in midtown, full of small shops and cafés, and within a few short blocks, the harbor, the new Hof Culture and Conference Center, theater, historical society museum, and more.
In the winter months, it is a short drive from the guest house to Akureyri’s Winter Sports Center, offering excellent downhill and cross-country skiing for information see http://www.hlidarfjall.is/en. In the summer Akureyri Golf Club offers excellent golf course not to mention the Artic Open Tournament, a true golfing adventure under the midnight sun. Loction adn how to find:
A good way to find the location is to use Google Maps. Type in ÁS Guest House Eyrarlandsvegur 33, Akureyri, select Directions, type in your location and detailed driving instructions will emerge. Remember we are just across the Botanical Garden in Akureyri.
Driving from Keflavik or Reykjavik head for Akureyr via (Þjóðvegur 1) Road 1.
Note: (Þjóðvegur 1)Road 1 is a Ring road and hence can be driven North or South to reach Akureyri.
Once in Akureyri head for Botanical Garden via Eyrarlandsvegur and look for our sign on the other side of the garden.
